A dental insurance is an insurance that will provide the person having dental insurance protection with required financial assistance for normal dental care and damage occurred to teeth from accidents, this can be under an individual or group insurance plan. Dental insurance was once a neglected area, but the awareness about importance of dental insurance is increasing alarmingly. In the past dental insurance was treated only as a perquisite provided by the company to its employees, studies (Human Resource Management Survey-1999) show that 83% of the small business provides dental insurance to its employees.

It’s advisable for every one to go for dental insurance. Dental insurance is more affordable and cheap when compared to other medical insurance. In fact dental insurance costs less than 10% of the cost of the medical coverage. Like every other type of insurance dental insurance also offers a number of plans that you can select from. The major types of dental insurance for employees are discussed below:

Direct reimbursement planThis plan works on the amount that the company set aside specially for this purpose. In this plan the employees are reimbursed the money that they have spent for dental care. The most positive aspect of this pan is that it is straight forward and not involves any complex calculations. This plan is widely recommended by American Dental Association. Direct reimbursement plan is considered as most expensive for the employers. Certain small business finds it difficult to go in tune with this plan because of the cost factor involved.

Indemnity plansThese plans are more feasible. Under this plan the amount of premium is paid to the insurance company and the company in turn pays the amount to the dentists for their treatment. Under this plan the insurance company generally uses UCR (usual, customary, and reasonable) for making payment to dentists. In case if the UCR rate used to pay dentists falls short of dentist’s rate, the patient has to make up the shortfall. The insurance coverage under this plan are 100% for preventive measures like cleanings, 80% for basic work like a crown or cap, and 50% for major procedures like oral surgery.

Managed care plansThese plans are treated as the least expensive. These plans include some cost control measures and are best suited for small business. This plan wants the patients to pay a certain amount as co-payment and the co-payments vary according to the procedure. Preventive procedures are normally performed without a co-payment and advanced procedures are carried out with a higher co-payment.

The managed care programs are of two types, they are:
a. Preferred Provider Organization (PRO) ProgramPreferred provider organization program consists of a network of dentists. The dentists who fall under this plan have reduced their charges with a view to participate in this plan. The employees can select the dentist from this pool, if the employees have to go to a dentist not in this pool they have to pay penalties.
b. Dental Health Maintenance Organization (DHMO) PlanIn this plan also the employees have the right to choose the dentist from the pool, but in this plan instead of discounting the fees the dentists provide certain treatments free of cost. The dentists are paid a fixed amount as fees per individual even if the patient never ever receives the payment.

The above stated are the various plans of dental insurance provided by the employer to the employees. It is possible for the employees to select the best suited plan after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the available options. By selecting a proper dental insurance it is possible for the employees to assure the health and safety of their teeth.

Choosing a Dental Plan these days can be just like pulling teeth. Pardon the humor, but for anyone who has tried to figure out the difference between dental plans, dental insurance, dental discount plans, dental health plans, ect., it can be an extremely frustrating and confusing experience.

First off, there are only two different things that we need to look at. Those are dental insurance and dental plans. Somehow there’s become a lot of different terminology for these two, but they’re the only ones that you need to worry about.

When most people think of dental care they think of insurance, which, twenty years ago was pretty much the only thing available to consumers. Many people could get coverage through their work either automatically, as an employee group benefit, or for a small fee. Things have changed a lot in the past two decades. Recent studies show that seven out of ten people in the United States have no type of dental coverage at all.

Dental insurance, unless provided by your employer, isn’t as “cost effective” these days. Some of the drawbacks are annual deductibles, annual spending limits, non-coverage for pre-existing conditions or a very long (usually 6-12 month) waiting period, and limitations and exclusions on certain types of care. You must also pay a monthly or annual premium which can be in the $25-$50.00 per month range for an individual person and even as much as $100.00 monthly for entire family coverage. At these rates it’s no wonder that there are such a high number of people who aren’t covered. They simply cannot afford it.

Dental discount plans were introduced several years ago as an insurance “alternative”.

Let’s define a discount plan – it’s really very simple. A dental discount plan allows you to visit a dentist at a reduced rate. You join the plan, which is usually very inexpensive and you may then visit any dentist in that plans “network”. This network is a group of dentist’s that have agreed to accept a reduced payment for services performed. They do this under the condition that the work be paid for at the time of the visit.

You see, it costs dentist’s money and time to fill out forms for insurance payments or to finance someone’s dental work. Besides the paperwork, it usually takes anywhere from 45-90 days for them to be paid by the insurance company after they’ve completed the work. In some cases, claims can even be rejected after they’ve already performed the work. The insurance company can claim that the person treated was no longer covered for whatever reason or that the procedure performed was excluded from being covered, in which case, the dentist is left “holding the bag”.

With dental discount plans you’ll pay a discounted fee for services rendered at the time of your visit. For example, let’s say that you need your teeth cleaned. The normal price for this may be $80.00, but you’ll get a discount card stating that you get a 50% (example) discount, so, in this case, you’d only pay $40.00.

Let’s do another example – let’s say that you need a root canal done and the price for a root canal is $800.00. Well, you’ve got a discount card that saves you 50% so you you’d only have to pay $400.00 out of pocket at the time of your visit to the dentist. Are you beginning to understand how this works?

This can be very cost effective for a family.

Is this beginning to make sense now? It’s really very simple isn’t it?

The 50% savings used was only an example. Many plans offer even higher discounts on certain procedures. Some even include discounts on procedures such as cosmetic dentistry, professional teeth whitening, orthodontics and more.

Also, pre-existing conditions are covered, there are no exclusions, no deductibles and no waiting periods to be treated. You can also see any dentist in the network. If for some reason you’re not happy with the first dentist that you see, you can simply start seeing a different one.

That pretty much sums it up. I hope that this was helpful so that you may make an informed decision when you decide to buy dental coverage.

This type of dental insurance offers affordable dental care for all the members of the family. This type of plan can provide affordable dental care for your family members. Many insurance companies provide dental insurance based on family needs, and getting the proper dental coverage can help ensure good health of your children and spouse.

Family dental insurance plan is available at low fee, so it can benefit both couples and children. Some dental services are available at free of cost for younger children or at lower costs. In this type of plan, costs can reduced for basic dental care like check ups, cleaning, root canals, dental x-rays, fillings and orthodontics. If you’re looking at a dental plan for your family, choose a plan that offers you all the coverage that you need. Family dental coverage is less expensive when compared to individual dental coverage. In individual dental coverage you have to take a dental insurance policy for each individual separately. This plan may be quite expensive. The more members of your immediate family there are the more money you can save over individual dental plans.

Most insurers offer family dental plans. Your employer may provide you family dental plan. If you are self employed you can always seek insurance from health providers yourself. If you are planning to take a family dental insurance, there are three major types of insurance for you: If you plan to take a family PPO dental insurance or family dental DHMO insurance, you have to pay less from your pocket each time you visit the dentist. Due to this reason, many families select managed care insurance for their dental needs. You can select a dentist from a network of approved providers, but you will face less hassle with paperwork and claims.

In Family indemnity dental insurance plan, your family can choose a dentist they wish to visit. Each member can choose a dentist from within the network or outside the network. You have to pay some deductibles or co-payments in the beginning. You will also need to file paperwork and claims forms in order to get reimbursement from your dental insurance provider. However this plan will give your family more flexibility.

Family discount dental plans can reduce your dental costs. You can enjoy lower costs on all dental services. However, no claims need to be filed. Instead, you present a discount card to a participating dentist and you are immediately given a specific discount.

If your employer provides this type of insurance, this could be very effective because he can provide various discounts on employee dental plans and can often give you the least expensive dental coverage possible. If your employer does not provide dental coverage for your family, then you have to research dental coverage providers yourself. Today, you can do these online using web sites.

Dental care is not something that everybody has in the United States. There is government assistance if you can qualify for it, but most people have to pay for it in some way or another like through their benefits package at work. Aside from government assistance, the dental care you can receive as an individual or family is through your insurance plan. You can get partial or total coverage. If you have no insurance whatsoever, however, you agree to pay the full amount of the dental care cost.

You can find an array of dental care plans that are available for both individuals and family members. If you are employed, your employer might be able to give you some dental coverage with the regular benefits package. However, offering dental insurance to employees can be a high cost, which might make it financially very difficult to offer dental coverage to all employees as a benefit.

If your employer does offer dental insurance, the benefits package will typically have the costs shared between the employer and employee. If you are a self-employed American or if you work for a company that does not offer dental insurance, you can find information on how to purchase a dental plan on your own. There is usually a monthly fee associated with your own dental plan, but sometimes this monthly fee could be less than what you would pay with your employer! If you do your research, you can find a good deal or you can forego dental insurance altogether and just pay for all of the services up front.

Since there are so many different types of dental plans, the right one depends on your unique situation. You can find that some plans will cover certain services that are not covered in another dental plan. And sometimes, the plan might cover all of the costs from one service, but charge you a portion of the services for another care piece.

Most of the time, your dental plan will offer some coverage for the basic dental needs, including preventative dental services like the recommended two check-ups every year. You can also get coverage on cleaning, x-rays and fluoride treatments.

Many of the dental plans in the United States will require payment or only have partial coverage for many follow-up work choices in dental care. If you have a crown, root canal, cavity filling, anesthesia, sealants and other similar actions, you will most likely have to pay for a portion of the services.

Most dental plans will not cover cosmetic surgeries, similar to how medical benefits packages won’t cover for plastic surgery. If you have teeth whitening, orthodontic work, crowns or dental implants, you will have to pay for it on your own. In this way, you can see why fewer people will consider having these actions done at the dentist’s office because they can’t afford – or don’t want to spend – that much money on their teeth! You can spend a lot of money very quickly in the dentist’s chair.

Although dental insurance is considered as being under health insurance jurisdiction, these two insurance types are in fact separate from one another. Most of the companies that provide their employees with health insurance do not include dental insurance and the increasing cost of dental care has made dental insurance in Washington D.C. a necessity. Dental health is as important as physical health, but unfortunately there are still some unresolved issues regarding dental insurance in Washington D.C.

Dental health is very important, but sometimes the costs of a full dental care are too high and most people tend to ignore their dental problems. Moreover, dental insurance in Washington D.C and many other states is also expensive, but costs can be considerably reduced by choosing the right dental plan. There are many Washington D.C. low rates insurance companies that have great dental insurance plans at affordable prices.

One of the tricks you have to know in order to get those Washington D.C. low rates insurance dental plans is that not all the coverage of dental insurance in Washington D.C. are necessary. For example, an expensive dental insurance plan in Washington D.C. allows you to choose the dentist. By choosing a dental insurance that will not allow you to opt for the dentist of your choice, you will save you a lot of money. Moreover, due to the fact that dental insurance in Washington D.C. has become more and more necessary, there are many Washington D.C. low rates insurance companies that have affordable dental plans that cover the most important aspects of dental care.

Another way to reduce the cost of your dental insurance in Washington D.C. is to choose a dental plan for your entire family and not just for yourself. Washington D.C. low rates insurance companies offer discounts for groups or families. You will have the dental coverage plan that you want and pay less. As the number of insured people increases, the premium per person is reduced and therefore the cost of your dental insurance in Washington D.C. becomes lower.

The cost of dental insurance in Washington D.C. is different for different dental insurance companies. However, there are many Washington D.C. low rates insurance companies people can choose from. Dental care is very expensive and unfortunately most health insurance policies do not offer dental insurance. The high cost of dental insurance in Washington D.C. has determined people to look for the best offers possible. One of the best places to look for affordable dental insurance in Washington D.C. is the Internet. People can compare prices, the coverage of their dental insurance and make the best choice.

The best way of finding the best dental insurance in Washington D.C. is to compare the offers of dental insurance companies. There are many companies in Washington D.C. that have low rates insurance dental plans and the best way to get the right dental insurance is to compare prices and lose some of the unnecessary coverage of the insurance.

There have been many instances whereby insurances that include dental care will fail to fully support the expenses incurred for dental care of a family. These would tend to create financial problems as the family would have to spend their own money or even borrow just to cover for the expenses created by the dental care of a family member due to insufficiency of insurance coverage. For this reason, supplemental dental insurance plan was created.

The importance of verifying fully the fine prints of an insurance coverage should never be taken for granted. By verifying and fully understanding your coverage and likewise the limitations of your insurance protection, you can prepare yourself for any eventuality that might arise. If your insurance for example would include dental care as part of your coverage, it does not necessarily mean that all services related to your family’s dental care will be covered. You will have to read the fine print of the policy to know if what kind of dental care is really covered by the insurance.

The stipulation as to what dental services are not covered will also be found there. Thus, if you are already aware of the true extent of your dental coverage, you can then decide for yourself if you still need a supplemental dental insurance plan. Your decision will of course consider the dental situation of your family; whether your daughter’s set of teeth might not be in a good condition due to sweets or that maybe your son’s set of teeth might have to be subjected to braces because of its abnormal growth position.

Supplemental dental insurance plan was precisely designed by insurance companies to answer the growing needs of insured clients to make it easy for those who may have to avail a dental service without the burden of having to pay additional cash for such service. This is understandable since the dental coverage included in a regular insurance plan is complimentary in nature. As such, it is not made to cover most of the expenses that will be incurred in a dental care service.

In getting a supplemental dental insurance coverage, careful selection should be made in consideration of your foreseen dental needs. If you think there is a real need for your son to have later on a dental brace, then you can go for a supplemental dental insurance coverage for braces. Do not ever think that a supplemental dental insurance will cover for all your family’s dental care needs. Again, examine the policy. Read the fine print and know what are you covered for under the agreement.

It would be more to your advantage if before you decide on a supplemental plan, you first try a research on supplemental dental insurance plan. Researching on this subject in the internet can give you a good idea about the many supplemental dental care plans in relation to the exact coverage of the plan and the cost that you have to fork out as your monthly premium.

Following your research, visit the insurance company concerned and have them give you a sample of the policy of your intended supplemental dental care plan to get and examine it for any phrase or words that you might not fully comprehend. If there is any, ask them and be fully clarified about it. After you have fully understood the fine print, you can now start your application for the supplementary dental insurance plan that you would like to have for your family’s dental protection.

How is a discount dental plan different from dental insurance?

A discount dental plan, also known as a dental savings plan, is an affordable alternative to dental insurance. There is no waiting period, no deductible, and no annual maximum benefit.

Unlike dental insurance, dental savings plans have no restrictions. They are easy to join and there is no paperwork to file and no prior approval needed. You get discount rates on all dental services, like exams, cleanings, teeth whitening, braces, etc. You simply present your card to a participating dentist and receive a discount on the services you need.

Dental insurance works like most medical insurance: you pay a monthly premium for coverage and the insurance pays for a portion of the procedure costs. With dental insurance, you will have waiting periods (as long as a year or more for some services), plan restrictions, annual maximum benefits—and even exclusions on some procedures.

How does a discount dental plan work?

Anyone can join a dental savings plan. You don’t need to be part of a company or group. A discount dental plan can be a monthly or an annual membership. As a member, you will have secured discount rates on all dental services from participating dentists —with no waiting period and no prior approval. There are no exclusions and no annual maximums.

How do I know if a dental savings plan is for me?

If you or your family have no dental coverage, if you are self-employed, retired or are part of a small business, a dental savings plan can be an affordable alternative to dental insurance. Even if you have dental insurance, a discount dental plan can supplement your insurance and offer you discounts on hundreds of different procedures.

Discount dental plans are a legitimate alternative to dental insurance. Licensed plans follow strict state guidelines and, more often, offer more value than dental insurance for individuals, families, and small employers. Dental savings plans provide an easier, more affordable way to obtain the services you need, whether for routine care, dental emergencies, or major dental procedures.

Dental Scenario:

Ours is a land, which saw the beginnings of health care- a time zone and scientific era far beyond the grasp .Dentistry in the Indian subcontinent was an integral part of medicine and boasted a surgical armamentarium, prescriptions for various ailments afflicting the mouth .Changes can be expected in every facet- from tools to techniques. With increasing health consciousness, the demand for dental care showed an increase in developed as well as developing countries.

System of Health care:

Health care is associated with capitalist system in industrialized countries. The basic principle is that an individual keeps on making regular periodic payments for health care, even when he is not in need of the same. The cost of medical care is also high.

It is catastrophic for an individual or a family to bear such unexpected financial burden. But the cost can easily borne by a large number of those who are insured and have been making payments but do not require the care at any time. The unpredictability of the need for an individual, but the predictability of the occurrence among a large number of individuals, makes such events suitable to be covered by insurance principle.

Dental Insurance: Health guard

The insurance coverage for catastrophic events like death and accidents, the coverage for events like hospitalization was offered by private insurance companies. The coverage for dental problems gives protection against sudden heavy expenditure on medical care.

Insurance for dental care pose problems as the prevalence of dental diseases and treatments needs were high. Commonly occurring events like the need of restorative dental services are difficult to insure at a reasonable and acceptable rate of insurance premium. The existence of Dental insurance should increase the demand for care.

Glance of Effective results:

An average individual has the opportunity to be prepared to incur expenditure for denture. Sometimes the insured person is not reimbursed by the insurance company the total cost of dental care, but only a certain amount is paid. The remaining expenditure is to be borne by the insured person. Group insurance, co-insurance and prepayment have become popular. The insurance companies thus use various methods of effecting economy, as they run as commercial concerns. The demand for care has a tendency to increase. On some occasions an individual may find himself being deprived of his legitimate claim. It may be difficult for an individual to stand up against a big insurance company with huge resources considering legal expenses. In spite of some drawbacks, the Dental coverage has become well established.
